Why wood is the Winnetka backyard standard

Because there is no slope to rack or step, the crew can run a long, straight, plumb line fast, and the footings are standard depth in the level alluvial soil rather than the deep, wide holes a hillside pad would need. The one flat-lot detail worth getting right is drainage.
